My dear friends, indeed all of your comments help in some ways to shape this topic, but, I see that we use more time criticizing the comments of others and forgeting to give our suggestions as is being sought by the topic.
Please contribute as though you were the very first person to contribute to this topic. I do know that you have good and broader ideas that can help develop our country.
You may not say all that is needed to be done in Liberia. but consider this topic as a bricks house. each block is useful in completing the building. I appreciate you all.

To suggest to, is not to dispute one opinion. What I am say is, we should avoid the waggle-waggle locomotion and just stick to the topic of discussion. If we are to suggest, we should think and come out with brilliance ideas that will harmonize situation rather than misconstruing the motive of the topic.
I certainly understand that we all have different experiences, different thoughts, different view-points, and of course, different ways of complying with certain things but, I also know that it is the difference that makes all there is. I am just asking that we dig more into the topic rather than confusing ourselves with trivial things. Frankly speaking, there are so many people logging onto this site and viewing some of the contents we post out, so, if we could be a little precise and a little mindful of what we post, you know, that will really help in pursuing our goal.
Thank you all for your corperation and hope to see lots of meaningful thoughts.
Be well.

I think possibly that there is misunderstanding b/c of the cultural difference and the difference that phrases and words mean (except for my previous post about Jesus being God which really did sound different than I intended even to my own ears.) I can’t see what it would have been in such a short post, BUT … as I read your (and others) comments I’m almost always having to stop and think about what you meant by certain phrases or wording. Not that you’re saying it wrong but there are differences even within the states about how to put certain things. (My friend from California who originally only spoke Spanish asked me who was “throwing up the party?” which where I’m from means vomitting the party but had she said “throwing the party” she would have been correct (here) in meaning hosting the party…buying supplies, inviting people…you catch my drift.) Anyway, sometimes prior assumptions about a person and semantics can make it difficult to understand what someone is saying.

Yes Jen, the post was ok but some how u shifted from ur original standpoint. what u are advocating for now is called international relations and diplomacy. countries cross-assist each other but a philosophy that thinks more outwardly than inwardly is a loser’s philosophy. a winning philosophy starts from within and extends outwards.

You can’t really disagree with me b/c I was asking a question. So from your statment the answer is not in sending goods. (By the way with the Sudan situation, goods will fix nothing but if a package costing me virtually nothing can bring joy to a child…I’d be a fool not to send things.) With Liberia it’s about rebuilding and I see that it has to come from within but that doesnt’ mean that you may not need help. After all, the original problems weren’t all your own. If help is not in goods (and of course its not) what might it be in. Heaven forbid a bunch of Americans come over and spread THEIR idea of what a powerful nation looks like, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t come along side and do some work . . . be it in building buildings, education…whatever. I guess I don’t know how to help but want to…b/c it’s the right thing to do AND b/c my son is from Liberia and he WILL have a safe, vibrant community to visit (or move back to…whichever he choses).

I seem to agree with Mc Julius but quite subtly disagree with Jen. our development as Africa shd willy nilly come from within and not extra-continental. the raw materials and expertise to develop our nations in Africa are all lying fallow here in Africa waiting to be harnessed for our own good.
the lies on us as Africans to dig deep into our reservoirs and pick up those shattered crumbs that can enhance our progression.

Also, what ideas do you have for people in the West (america) to do in order to help? We have a life group of about 20 people who meet weekly through our church. We are currently sending supplies to Sudan. What can be done to rebuild Liberia from afar (or even there on a short term basis)?
